Clanrat Portrait

The Clanrat is one of the Enemies in Vermintide.

Summary

The Clanrats make up the bulk of the Skaven army and are among the lowest ranking in the vile clan hierarchy. Slightly shorter than your average man, the Clanrats matted fur is filthy and patched, with wounds and boils covering parts of their body. They are clothed in rags and scrap armour, carrying worn down swords, knives, maces, flails, spears, and torches. The Clanrats' strength comes from their great numbers, surrounding and overwhelming their enemy by attacking from all directions. While banded together, the Clanrats bolster each other's confidence and aggressiveness, encouraged by the screaming of orders like "kill the man-things, quick-quick". Yet these warriors are cowardly at heart and lack basic discipline and determination. If the odds turn against them, the remaining Clanrats will start to cower away or even flee the battle.

Tips

  • They often spawn unaware of the players, allowing them to be safely picked off from afar to make encounters easier. Bows and crossbows work best; using a gun can work as well, but the loud noise will draw attention prematurely.
  • While they have no special abilities, they are the most numerous enemy you will encounter in the game and carelessness in the face of these enemies will cost you a lot of health in the long run. Remain vigilant.
  • Getting surrounded can be fatal especially on harder difficulties.
  • If you find yourself surrounded, use pushes to buy yourself time and space to maneuver.
  • They can approach you from almost any direction by climbing up sewer holes, climbing up walls, jumping down from rooftops, etc. Watch your back.
  • With many weapons, aiming for the head can decapitate them in one fell swoop, making it the preferred target.
  • When faced with a large swarm of Clanrats, it can be a useful strategy to fall back to a chokepoint such as a doorway and kill them as they come through. However, be advised that this strategy may slow your team's progress down, prompting the spawning of additional special units.
